EcoCAR 3 is an Advanced Vehicle Technology Competition (AVTC) series that is held by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Sixteen university teams redesign a Chevy Camaro to reduce environmental impact, but it must maintain the performance and muscle. EcoCAR is sponsored by DOE and General Motors, and managed by Argonne National Laboratory. All tools and materials are from GM, and are the same tools that GM uses. This competition will span 4 years, from 2014 to 2018. The number 3 means that this is third competition. Additionally, the winners of EcoCAR competition will be hired from GM.

The UA EcoCAR 3 team garage is located in South Engineering Research Center.
